Behawior klaczy i źrebiąt sokólskich podczas doju

Abstrakt

Mare’s milk was already known in antiquity and remains one of the important foods for almost 30% of the Asian population. However, mare milking differs from cow milking, especially in the amount of single milk yield and in the fact that the foal stays with the mare throughout the lactation period, and its absence stops further production. However, it is important to ensure their well-being. The study used information on 9 Sokólski mares kept in the years 2017‒2020 at the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Kołbacz, in the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. The study analyzed the behavior of mares and foals during milking, assessing their behavior on a scale of 0 to 5 points. It was found that milking once a day had no effect on the condition of mares and foals. It was also established that the very good character and calm temperament of Sokólski horses predetermine this breed for milk production. In addition, mares’ milk can be an alternative product that allows increasing the profitability of maintaining endangered local breeds of cold-blooded horses
