The article presents a report from the joint congress of the European Society of Veterinary Pathology, the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, the European Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology, which took place in Lisbon, Portugal, August 31 – September 2, 2023. The idea of the joint congress resulted from the need to exchange ideas, experiences and points of view regarding the approach to laboratory diagnostics in anatomical and clinical pathology. The congress focused on those branches of veterinary pathology in which both necropsy and microscopic diagnostics, as well as cytopathology, body fluids and bone marrow biopsy, play an important role. A record number of over 450 participants took part in the Congress. Most of them were veterinary anatomic and clinical pathologists, as well as residents preparing for board exams. There were sessions on general pathology, diseases of wild and exotic animals, fish diseases, new diagnostic techniques, infectious diseases, oncology, bone marrow pathology and tumor pathology, forensic veterinary medicine and cytopathology. A nice event of this year’s Congress was the awarding of the title of European Specialist in Veterinary Pathology to vet. surgeon Diana Bochyńska, who graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lublin. The interdisciplinary nature of the issues presented at the Congress and the far-reaching specialization in veterinary pathology itself indicate the need for specialized education in this field of veterinary medicine
